David C Sandiford
Called: 1995 Areas of Law: Personal Injury, Actions Against The Police (Defendant)
David Sandiford was educated at Bolton School and Oxford University.
Called to the bar in 1995, he is a Karmel Scholar of Gray’s Inn.
His practice covers two major areas: personal injury and police actions (Defendant).
In personal injury David has a large and busy Defendant and Claimant practice with a focus upon the larger more complex multi track work. His work covers all serious injury including chronic pain and brain injury. He is renowned for his strong advocacy and ability to get the right result for clients. These qualities along with his experience and firm grasp of legal principles mean that he is very much in demand and many solicitors consider him to be counsel of choice to handle both their Multi Track and Fast Track work. He expertise covers employers’ liability, public liability, product liability and road traffic (four wheel and motorcycle).
Following a strong police and personal injury pupillage, David has also developed a busy purely Defendant police practice.

He acts and advises in the full spectrum of civil actions involving the police ranging from unlawful arrest, malicious prosecution, unlawful searches and related causes of action right through to civil applications such as football banning orders. He advises forces in the conduct of investigations and the execution of duties. In the disciplinary field his experience is in sitting as advisor to the panel and he has acted on behalf of the police in High Court licensing matters. He is also instructed in inquests relating to deaths in custody.
An important part of David’s ethos is to welcome calls from his instructing solicitors to chat over a tricky issue or mull over an interesting point without the need for formal instructions. The ongoing relationship between solicitor and counsel is highly valued. Noted for his hard working approach, he is well known for putting clients and witnesses at ease with his professional attitude and friendly approach.

Away from work David enjoys spending what little spare time he has with his wife and young family. They have recently ( and at very long last!) moved into the new family home. The garden is next on the list of things to do.
A keen sportsman and cricketer, he is a member of the MCC and won a Blue at Oxford. Sadly after that it was downhill all the way and he finally faded into retirement from serious league cricket several years ago. He remains convinced that a glorious come back is just around the corner but for now his complaints to his wife that he is a cricketer and not a gardener appear to be falling on deaf ears. He has no idea how to work a lawnmower.
