Employment Practice

Nicholas is a specialist employment law practitioner.  He undertakes all aspects of Employment Tribunal work, appearing for both employees and employers.

Nicholas acts on a direct-access basis for individual Claimants, small businesses, as well as larger employers.

Nicholas’ work incorporates employment disputes in all areas; from disputes with an individual employer to more complicated cases in larger organisations.  He regularly appears in multi-day hearings and fosters an approachable working relationship with all his clients.

Nicholas’ practice includes Tribunal representation, as well as advice and assistance in the workplace before any legal action takes place.  He also assists in drafting Claim Forms (ET1) and Responses (ET3) and can provide advice on the merits, procedure and evidence of a case before it goes to Court.
Nicholas’ practice covers:
  • Unfair dismissal (as well as constructive dismissal)
  • Unpaid wages or holiday pay
  • Redundancy
  • Discrimination (based on Race, Sex, Disability, Religious Belief, Sexual Orientation or Age).
  • Transfers of a Business (TUPE)

  • Breaches of or variations to contract claims
  • Restrictive covenant proceedings

Road Traffic Offences

Nicholas undertakes work directly on behalf of individuals and Companies who are charged with Road Traffic Offences, including speeding, use of a mobile phone, careless driving, driving without insurance, driving with excess alcohol, signal and other vehicle-related offences.

Nicholas can represent people at Court as well as provide advice in terms of procedure, evidence and potential sentences.

Nicholas also represents individuals seeking to avoid disqualification through applications for exceptional hardship and special reasons and conducts appeals from the Magistrates’ Court to the Crown Court.

Regulatory Offences

Nicholas has experience in defending a wide range of regulatory cases in the Crown and in the Magistrates’ Court, particularly where the cases involve private prosecution authorities, such as Local Authorities and Government Agencies.  He represents individuals and companies who are alleged to have committed regulatory breaches and criminal offences.

Nicholas conducts cases involving:


  • Health and safety issues, including building regulations and food and hygiene regulations;
  • Electrical safety and breaches of building regulations;
  • Breaches of planning regulations, prohibition notices as well as issues relating to highways;
  • Trading standards – including trade marks and mis-selling of goods.
