National Mock Trial Competition

On Saturday 25 March 2017 a team from Cobden House – Gwen Henshaw, Phil Simms, Sarah Jameson and  Sue Hargreaves – travelled down to London to watch the National Mock Trial Competition at The Royal Courts of Justice.

Cobden House have for some time been supporting and working with a team from Loreto College in Hulme, who won their regional competition and had made it to the National Final in London.  The team consisted of fifteen and sixteen year old “barristers”, witnesses and court staff.  They put in fantastic performances as they were cheered on by two dedicated Law tutors and the Cobden House mentors.  The standard of advocacy was extremely high and the witnesses really got in to character. The trials were presided over by such dignitaries as Sir Brian Leveson PC and Judge Rinder.  After stiff competition, our team came fourth out of twenty-four schools from all over the country.  We were very proud! All credit to Chambers’ pupils who gave up a lot of their time on a regular basis to encourage and coach the team.
