Breathing Assisted Tetraplegic claim settles for £12M

Marc Willems QC, instructed by Defendant insurers and reinsurers, has just settled a breathing assisted tetraplegic claim for a lump sum settlement of £12M. The settlement included a compromise on Liability and was reached by the parties engaging in Alternative Dispute Resolution throughout the life of the case. This was done by holding Way Forward Meetings which dealt with matters such as interim payments for the purchase of suitable accommodation and the agreed use of expert evidence with minimal involvement of the Court. The parties reached agreement following a Joint Settlement Meeting.
