Robert Sterling succeeds for his client in the first stage of libel action


It is a common form of journalism to refer to an individual and his wrong doing and for effect to place that story side-by-side with a separate story of wrong doing.

Sean Price v Newsquest Media Group Limited [2023[ EWHC 3027, where Robert Sterling recently appeared for the successful claimant, Mr Price is a good example of how a newspaper, The Northern Echo, in its reporting, over-stepped the connection between Mr Price’s wrong-doing as Chief-Constable of Cleveland Police and the completely separate wrong-doing of which his former employer, Cleveland Police, had been accused.
