Overview

Damian is a highly experienced Criminal Law practitioner and joined Cobden House as a tenant in September 2025.

Before transferring to the Bar, Damian qualified as a Solicitor in 2003 and has practiced exclusively in crime ever since. Having quickly obtained his duty solicitor status, he has represented hundreds of defendants at the Magistrates’ Courts and Police stations throughout the Northwest and Midlands.  

In 2020, Damian obtained his Higher Rights of Audience and has since focused primarily on Crown Court advocacy, earning a strong reputation for his effectiveness in the Crown Courts

As a Higher Courts Advocate, Damian has worked with several leading criminal law firms in the North West and has represented clients nationwide. His experience includes being led successfully in three murder trials in Leicester, Chester, and Manchester Crown Courts, as well as defending clients in fraud and drugs cases in Newport, Chigwell, and Teesside Crown Courts.

Damian’s caseload has spanned a wide range of serious offences, including insurance fraud, drug supply and conspiracies, violent crime, robbery, domestic violence, theft, murder, and people trafficking. He welcomes instructions in such matters throughout the North West.

Damian is recognised for his approachable, straightforward, and empathetic manner with clients, alongside his ability to quickly absorb, assess, and analyse complex case information

Notable Cases

R v Firlit – successful defence of Polish National in multi handed murder case. Case was dismissed at close of prosecution case. At the request of leading counsel DZ cross examined the prosecution telecoms expert. Further, DZ drafted half time submission at request of leading counsel who then presented the argument which was ultimately successful.

 

R v Kamal  – successful defence in multi handed cut-throat defence in ‘A34 murder’.

DZ was involved in the preparation of cross examination of the prosecution traffic expert. Further DZ was tasked by leading counsel to cross examine one of the co-defendants.
